Porsche Boxster 982 Audio Upgrade — Focal K2 Power & Match DSP | Car Audio Sydney
The 982 Boxster presents a genuine challenge for audio installs. The mid-engine layout, convertible roof, and compact door cavities make subwoofer placement a problem that most installers solve badly — a box wedged into the front boot, or a compromise enclosure that eats storage. This build took a different approach.
Full Focal B.A.M. butyl membrane treatment went into both doors before anything else — inner skin, outer skin, full coverage. Done properly, a B.A.M.-treated door cavity on a car like the Boxster becomes a sealed acoustic enclosure in its own right. That's what made it possible to run Helix Ci5 slim subwoofers in the doors and get genuine bass response without a dedicated subwoofer box anywhere in the car. No boot space lost, no compromise on output.
The front stage is Focal K2 Power — mid drivers and tweeters — positioned using custom CNC-machined MDF adapters designed specifically for the 982 door locations. Precision-cut, black painted, and shaped to hold the K2 Power mids at the correct angle and depth for the door cavity. The kind of detail that doesn't show once the trim goes back on but makes a measurable difference to imaging and midrange clarity.
Everything runs through the Match UP 6DSP — crossover points, time alignment, and level matching dialled to the specific acoustic environment of the Boxster cabin. The Ci5 subwoofers and K2 Power mid drivers hand off cleanly, and the result is a system that sounds complete and cohesive without the visual or spatial footprint of a traditional subwoofer install.
For a car you drive with the roof down, that matters.
