Ford Mustang GT — Focal Flax 3-Way Active | Sydney Car Audio
The 2021 Mustang GT is a loud car — just not in the right way. Wide tyres, a resonant cabin, and a factory system that runs out of ideas around medium volume. This build addressed all of it.
Focal B.A.M. butyl membrane went in across the doors and floor before any speakers were touched. It's denser and more controlled than standard deadening material — the panels stop flexing, the road noise drops, and the doors start to feel solid in a way the factory shell doesn't.
The front stage is a fully active 3-way Focal Flax setup — tweeter, midrange, and woofer each running on independent amplifier channels, crossed over and time-aligned through DSP. No passive crossovers anywhere. Every driver operates in exactly its intended frequency range with precisely controlled overlap — which is what gives a well-built active system that sense of space and separation that passive installs struggle to match.
Focal's Flax cone material is a good fit for a car like the Mustang — it handles high volumes without getting aggressive, and it stays cohesive across the whole frequency range rather than sounding like separate speakers doing separate things.
It leaves the bay sounding like a finished system. Because it is.
Equipment:
